From the Event Stewards: There have been a couple of questions about some event logistics. If one asks, that likely means others are wondering right? 🙂
The main hall of the event is the Peter Mackinnon Building (middle/center circle). That is where you will find gate & class registration, the championships, merchants, the Museum of Antiquities, University of Saskatchewan, the green classroom, and hanging out space.
The classrooms we have booked are Geology 155, 161, 165 (left circle). This is where all the lecture & discussion style classes are. It also houses the Geology USask Museum of Natural Sciences.
The John Mitchell (Drama) Building (top right circle) is where the active and noisy classes are. Use the north entrance to access the Theatre (classroom) and to walk up to the third floor for the 1on1 coaching in the studio. Use the south entrance to use the elevator to the second floor for armour storage in the Rehersal room.
If it’s a nice day, the Bowl is a large green space we can use. We just can’t put up tents. (No stabbing anything into the lawn.)
All the buildings are wheelchair accessible, with accessible bathrooms. Unfortunately all bathrooms are gendered.
The yellow spots are pay parking lots. Lot R (bottom right circle) is also a pay lot on weekends. $1.50/hour to a max of $6. There are some meters that are free on the weekends and if you go to the usask.ca parking website there is a map to help you locate them. Several bus routes bring you to Place Riel (across from P1).
There is no feast. There is some fast food available in Lower Place Riel (across from P1) and in the big white boxes on College Dr (bottom left of the map). AND some wonderful volunteers are offering a BBQ fundraiser. The Museum is organising a bar and it will have some snacks for you.
Perhaps You: OH NO, registration for classes and one-on-one fighting has closed and I missed out! How can I participate?!
Web Minister: Friend, it will be okay! Pre-registration for classes has closed so the event stewards can give those teaching a chance to prepare for the level of interest. While some courses may be closed, you can still sign up for classes when you arrive at Gate. Many instructors have no limit to their class-size and would love to have you join in! Check out the class schedule to familiarise yourself with options and their times. And if you end up with an hour to spare, retinue and gate coordinators may be seeking volunteers for some time0slots and that’s a great way to participate in the background shenanigans magic of TUA.
Questions asked: Will the fundraiser BBQ and/or the Museum snacks have gluten free and dairy free options?
Stewards: We can’t answer for the BBQ but suspect they will have thought of that. The bar snacks will include cheese/veggie/fruit trays so that should be GF. 🙂
Will there be showers or change rooms for the fighters?
Stewards: There are showers available in the John Mitchel (Drama) Building. We are unsure yet if they are individual stalls, though.
Instructor question: If I have uploaded a power-point to google drive….how do I access it in the classroom I am teaching in? Do I need to give someone access? I may need some assistance to know how to use the available tech.
Stewards: You will either be able to access the google drive from the kiosk in the room the same way you would with your own laptop or you can connect your laptop to the system that has a projector. Someone with university access will have to sign into the system first. If our organisers are not there the museum staff can help you or anyone in your class with Usask credentials can sign in.
Interactive Guide! (Click on each image to open the corresponding Google Map page.)
Now that you’ve parked, it’s time to go to the Administration Building! Gate/Court and several of the classes will happen here. It’s pretty historic. Can you find the gargoyles? In the background of this image, you’ll see the Gymnasium Place drop-off. The Campus Drive drop-off will be on the other side of this building down a short path.
One-on-one fighting and combat classes will happen in the John Mitchell Building. If you walk towards the GIANT GLASS BUILDING, you’ll find the theatre on your right. It isn’t far from the Gymnasium Place parking.
From the front of the Administration Building (Gate/Court) you’ll see the Bowl. It’s a big park. To the immediate right is the Physic’s Building (some cool things in there) and the Geology Building hosting our classes connects to it. The fastest/foolproof route is to walk through the park. If you wander into the Physics Building by accident, just follow the tunnels/halls until you find a Tim Horton’s (it’ll be closed, sadly) and a big ol’ T-Rex! All classes are on the ground level.
